SSC CHSL salary at a glance
CHSL fills Group ‘C’ posts — Lower Division Clerk / Junior Secretariat Assistant and Data Entry Operator — in central ministries, departments and offices. The notification fixes the pay level of each post. Allowances such as Dearness Allowance are paid on top under central government rules and change over time, so this page sticks to the official basic-pay bands.
Pay levels & posts
Exactly as listed in the CHSL 2026 notification. It places DEO posts at Level 4 and Level 5 but does not say which departments use which level — that depends on the post and department you are allotted.
| Pay level | Basic pay | Posts |
|---|---|---|
| Level 5 | ₹29,200 – 92,300 | Data Entry Operator (posts placed at Level 5) |
| Level 4 | ₹25,500 – 81,100 | Data Entry Operator, Data Entry Operator Grade ‘A’ |
| Level 2 | ₹19,900 – 63,200 | Lower Division Clerk (LDC) / Junior Secretariat Assistant (JSA) |
Entry basic pay by level
The first figure of each pay band from the notification — the basic pay you start on at that level. Your actual monthly salary is higher once allowances are added, and lower after deductions.
Basic pay only. In-hand pay depends on the Dearness Allowance rate in force, your city of posting and your deductions, so JobSafal does not quote an in-hand figure — check with your department once you are allotted a post.

Allowances & deductions
Basic pay is only part of the salary. Central government employees also receive allowances and have deductions; the rates are set by government orders and change over time, so confirm the current rates with your department.
Career growth
CHSL is an entry point into central government service. Promotions follow the rules of the cadre or department you join — usually seniority and departmental exams — and pay rises with annual increments and DA revisions. Once you graduate, you can also sit for graduate-level exams such as SSC CGL, subject to their eligibility rules.
